Omakase, お任せ, literally translates to ‘I’ll leave it up to you’. And what better Chef to leave it up to, than Executive Chef Nobuyuki Ura of hatted sushi e fame.

Take a seat at the Chef’s Counter and let your taste buds be transported to the finest sushi houses of Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.

Our kaiseki style omakase is a ritualised dinner showcasing an array of traditional, Japanese cooking techniques.

Omakase is available on Wednesday and Thursday evenings for a 6.30pm start. It will also soon be available on Fridays, starting Friday 12th April. To book a table, select the 6.30pm ‘Omakase’ option when booking.

FAQs

  • Omakase literally means ‘I’ll leave it up to you’ and stems from the Japanese word ‘makaseru’ which means ‘to entrust’. It’s the diner giving their vote of confidence to the Chef, to show off their skills and also the seasonality of their produce.

  • Omakase is a culinary performance. You’re seated at the Chef’s Counter and can witness the Chef’s talents play out directly in front of you. Each dish is carefully considered and presented, you can ask questions and truly connect with the Chef as well as the cuisine.

  • Our omakase is a kaiseki style event and includes 9 courses.

  • The price is $250 per person for food only.

  • There are 10 seats at the Chef’s Counter. Seats are highly coveted and booking in advance is essential. Click the link below to book a spot.

  • We advise booking a seat at the Chef’s Counter at least 4 weeks in advance. Cancellations within 7 days of your booking will incur a $50 charge. If you cancel within 4 days of your booking you will be charged the full amount.

  • Ora is on the border of Waterloo and Redfern, located on the historic Danks Street. It’s a 15 minute walk from Redfern Station and Green Square Station. There is also ample street parking available on Danks Street as well as the neighbouring side streets.
